Sutton-Pelosi vs. Renacci- Boehner?

Sooner or later it figures  that Nancy Pelosi would make it to the Ohio ballot.   That's what Republican congressman Jim Renacci wants to happen.  Not he's any great admirer of the Democratic minority leader.  Quite the contrary.  He wants you to believe that by voting for his Democratic opponent in the new 16th congressional district you will not be voting for Rep. Betty Sutton but for Pelosi

Or as Renacci's new $1.1 million GOP Super PAC ad puts it, Sutton doesn't work for Ohio; she works for Pelosi.

Pelosi's political enemies have been putting a hit on her ever since she rose to prominance in the House of Representatives.  I was never sure whether it was because she was a woman or a Californian. Years ago,  a  guy at a friend's patio party couldn't stop rattling on about "that witch" - my way of cleaning it up. Some white guys have a way about stating their case against women.

Renacci, of course, is a garden variety  conservative Republican who seldom disagrees with his boss, House Speaker John Boehner.  And as the ad snorts, Sutton supports Obamacare, while making the easily refuted claim that the President is robbing Medicare of $700 billion or something like that, to support Obamacare.

That's what you get for $1.1 million these days?   Please.  

The Pelosi/Alamo factor, John Kasich and Witchcraft

JUST HEARD A REPUBLICAN slamming a Democratic candidate who would be "the same as Nancy Pelosi."

Nothing unusual there. Pelosi is frequently held up in the nastiest of terms by the GOP to rally its troops without further explanation. She has become the Alamo that the other side wants you to remember. But why? Other than she is a Democratic leader and a woman, what is it about the Speaker of the House that is so alarming to her enemies? Unlike Minority leader John Boehner, a chain smoker, she has never been accused of passing out tobacco company lobbyists' money to his Republican colleagues on the House floor.

She has roiled some of the white guys across the aisle by her female toughness in rounding up the votes on health care, Wall Street reforms and other matters of importance that Republicans have summarily dismissed over the years. And she has been seen smiling frequently in contrast to Boehner's dour Dr. Doom expression. So what is it about Pelosi that finds her name affixed so conveniently to anti-Democrat assaults without telling us more? But if you do decide to tell us, I should caution you that it is a small matter to find out that you are making it up.

John Kasich, who says he finds time in his whirlwind life to read three or four books at a time, told the Dayton Daily News that he still manages to come home and "lay on the couch and graze a bit". Could he have misused the verb to avoid associating himself with "lie". On the other hand, he may well be laying some of his political eggs during his off-campaign hours.

Who could blame Delaware voters for being confused when they go to the polls this year? With Tea Party/Republican candidate Christine O'Donnell on the ballot as the contender for the U.S. Senate the voters will be required to decide which is witch! Sorry.

On Arshinkoff, Lincoln, socialism and whatever

REPUBLICANS DON'T have to look to Rep. John Boehner, RNC Chairman Michael Steele or Fox News to get their adrenalin flowing this election year. There's some basic fill-in-the-blank name-calling in the invitation sent out by the Summit County Republican Party for its $40-a-plate (and more) Lincoln Day dinner Saturday Night at Quaker Square. Prepared over County Chairman Alex Arshinkoff's signature, the currently fashionable plea to the party faithful is dredged up for the currently fashionable Pavlovian response - anger and more importantly, ready cash. Sigh. Times are tough all over.

In return it is promised to the dinner guests that U.S. Rep. Steve LaTourette, once slotted in the "moderate" column on Capitol Hill, will give a "lively first-hand report on what it's like to serve on the front lines in the fight against Nancy Pelosi and Obama's far-left socialist agenda."

Oh?

Actually, what it has been like on the front lines for all of the GOP congressmen has required very little effort. Just say No, or, if you prefer to be more macho, Hell, no. There has been little evidence that anybody on the Right has given the "far-left socialist agenda" much of its own blood, sweat and tears. Nice work, if you can get it. You even get some weekdays and most week-ends off, as well as great self-mandated health-care coverage.

None of this would have deserved any attention, except that it's just starting. And with the current state ticket bearing hyper-candidates who want to repeal the health care reform law, or eliminate the state income tax, the field of battle into November is looking more like Texas. I mean, will anybody take a breath long enough to find out what socialism is? Or was?

By the way, it wasn't mentioned in the letter, but Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the House and Barack Obama is the President. Both, I believe, are Democrats. As George Gobel once said of World War II, it's been in all of the papers.

The RNC's mindless "Galore"

WELL, THE REPUBLICAN National committee has decided to go Hollywood again after years of waiting for Ronald Reagan to return the party's phone calls.   The latest gambit is an R-rated RNC video attacking Nancy Pelosi,   likening her to the old James Bond anti-heroine Pussy Galore.  POLITICO reports that although the B-movie comedy writers at the RNC didn't actually use the vulgar reference to Pelosi's  anatomy, what else could you conclude when they ran her picture next to Pussy's, and  if you needed further coaching, noted here were two Democrats "Galore."  I'm not sure that Honor Blackman was a Democrat in 1963 when the Bond movie "Goldfinger"  came out  - RNC often takes license with stray notions for shock effect -  but I can hear the guffaws and back-slapping by the inmates at the RNC for coming up with such a  cute way to suggest that a woman might have a certain physical  advantage on Capitol Hill.

Whew!   Has this gang not yet  heard that  the Democrats captured the majority of women's votes last November?  And how embarrassing it might have been to some Republicans when a woman in John McCain's audience referred to Hillary Clinton as "the bitch"  - a reference that occasionally pops up on right-wing talk shows.  Isn't there anybody else minding the store but  RNC chairman Michael Steele,  who is burned regularly for some of his mindless comments?  The Democrats aren't angels, but they don't have to be so long as the RNC takes care of its business by vulgarizing  women.
